Stop Al Gore, Kill a Tree!

Now this is American ingenuity at its finest. Some enterprising individuals have devised the "Carbon Debit" as a way to offset lefty offsets. Rather than simply talking about Gore's hypocritical scheme of indulgences, these folks are doing something about it. It's kind of like a reverse indulgence (in the papal sense of the word). "I want to make sure that guy gets to hell."

Be sure to check out exactly how they make a carbon debit. For Lefties, this has got to be like the SpongeBob episode where skinflint Mr. Krabs is forced to watch a dollar bill get shredded in a blender. If you don't have kids, ignore that last comment.

My predictions: Bush electoral votes: 270 Kerry electoral votes: 268 Switching to Red: Hawaii, Iowa, New Mexico Switching to Blue: New Hampshire, Ohio Popular vote: Bush 50.1, Kerry 48.5 Senate: GOP picks up 2. House: GOP nets 5. Should Colorado split its vote, Lt. Kerry reports for duty (with Bush still winning the popular vote). I suppose the only consolation for such a circumstance would be the deafening silence on the topic of reforming the electoral college.

Hanson on the "nuisance"

VDH takes on Kerry's "nuisance" comment and the liberal mindset on the war on terror. A devastating critique. He believes Bush will win because most Americans no longer buy what the Democrats are selling: ...the Democratic party is run not by unionists, farmers, miners, truckers, and average folk, but by those rich enough not to have to make a living, and who wish out of either guilt or noblesse oblige to force the dumber upper middle class to be more sensitive, generous, or utopian. Americans also believe Europe has lost its way and is bogged down in a hopeless and soon-to-be scary task of legislating by fiat heaven on earth. Great stuff. As usual. Read the whole thing.

John Locke, an old Subaru, and the ethics of blocking traffic

By now most people have seen video of a man in a Subaru driving through a crowd of protesters in Minneapolis. The crowd sees the Subaru approaching, and acts to block him from continuing. We don't know what was said, just that the driver honked furiously, then tried edging forward. One young woman who refused to move was bumped and knocked over, at which point, he was mobbed with people pounding on his car. He decided to get out of Dodge and bumped/pushed his way through the crowd to freedom. What of it? Pedestrians traditionally have the right of way when interacting with motor vehicles, even if said pedestrians are stupid. How much of that rule applies when they are illegally blocking a street? If my daughter can't run a lemonade stand without a permit, but people can illegally block traffic (no permit) without fear of any police intervention, we have a strange inversion of law.
