A friend makes the following observation on the above-linked LA times piece:

Rather runs a story accusing the President of lying about his military service... his primary evidence consists of falsified documents... the President's party calls Rather on it... and that's a "partisan attack"?

Yes, obviously.

Even more galling was the CBS broadcast last night in which Dan Rather reported on George Bush speaking to a National Guard audience and not mentioning any controversy surrounding his service, all but accusing Bush of ducking the new allegations.

Accordingly, I submit the first and last Friends quote you will see in this space: "Hello, Kettle? You're black!"

My predictions: Bush electoral votes: 270 Kerry electoral votes: 268 Switching to Red: Hawaii, Iowa, New Mexico Switching to Blue: New Hampshire, Ohio Popular vote: Bush 50.1, Kerry 48.5 Senate: GOP picks up 2. House: GOP nets 5. Should Colorado split its vote, Lt. Kerry reports for duty (with Bush still winning the popular vote). I suppose the only consolation for such a circumstance would be the deafening silence on the topic of reforming the electoral college.

Hanson on the "nuisance"

VDH takes on Kerry's "nuisance" comment and the liberal mindset on the war on terror. A devastating critique. He believes Bush will win because most Americans no longer buy what the Democrats are selling: ...the Democratic party is run not by unionists, farmers, miners, truckers, and average folk, but by those rich enough not to have to make a living, and who wish out of either guilt or noblesse oblige to force the dumber upper middle class to be more sensitive, generous, or utopian. Americans also believe Europe has lost its way and is bogged down in a hopeless and soon-to-be scary task of legislating by fiat heaven on earth. Great stuff. As usual. Read the whole thing.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) is quoted as uttering these words following last night's all-night session called by Majority "Leader" Harry Reid. The statement's context is intended as a criticism of the Republicans for utilizing the cloture requirement of 60 votes to end a debate and put a matter to a vote. It illustrates perfectly the reason for Congress' abysmal approval ratings, currently lower than those of President Bush: NONE of them get it. Claire and everyone else following Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid on the Good Ship Stop-n-Drop are trying to make this out to be the Republicans against the Democrats. The Iraq debate isn't some college contest to see who comes away with the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship belt.
